Discovering Ethiopia - September/October 2004

It was a new experience for all of us. 20 students and professors of the TU Freiberg travelled to Ethiopia to deal with several geolocial and geoecological questions. My job was to observe a volcanic complex called Bosetti.

Berecha or Bariccia, one of the tow volcanoes of Bosetti. My associate partner Ula from Poland and me were obviously the first white people on top of both mountains...wicked!

Fake "palmtrees" at the Tullu Demtu (4377 m), the 2nd highest mountain in Ethiopia. It started snowing...and I worn short trousers...cool!

A tiny river near Dinsho in the Bale Mountain National Park. The area is volcanic plateau of tertiary basalts, with a breathtaking landscape.

The rim of the caldera "Kone" near Metehara between Nazret and Awash. The diameter of the volcano is about 10 to 12 km.

Men@work. Geologists researching teconical structures in a tertiary ignimbrite. Students around are obviously perplexed.
